Fished Cherokee yesterday, small club tournament. Had zero, nada, zilch , skunked etc etc. Water 48-50 , blue bird skies and light winds. Unfortunately for some folks, I was not the only old dog that showed up with my tail tucked between my legs. It was tough. Cranks and jigs and even threw the old ball and chain. Although there was one high school event with over 140 boats and club guys from one end to the other, it was pretty quiet. Keep this trend of getting skinned going and I'll have to look at selling boat getting a bowling bowl LOL
  2. Big derby going out of 25E bridge on Cherokee Sat 23rd. 140+ boats. Gonna be crowded over there but I'm fishing a small derby anyways. We'll go out another launch area. It's spring time in East Tn!
  3. Any ideas on when crappie will be shallow to make babies? I think I'll get a day or 2 next week. Tuesday maybe. I like to fish a bobber so the skinny water works best for me. Just going to try to have few for the table. Dada ought to have fish fry! I'll bring the cole slaw. LOL

    spawning Crappie

Dada----Saturday should be a nice day--at least weather wise! Hope you fill the boat and have a TA fish fry!! The Saturday boat traffic might be a bit heavy what with cabin fever and all. I'm going today and will launch at Walters Bridge, after the bass. I'll get back on conditions later today.

    spawning Crappie

Kinda what I was thinking. We're catching bass dirt shallow and although it'll be a few weeks before they bed we're seeing bass with eggs. not as many as the bucks but they're getting a bit hungry. Cold windy and cloudy today. Bet we could catch some fish today. Work is a four letter word but it beats starving LOL

    Finally got on the water...

I'd rather be passed the same way, just not real close. Less commotion. A group of kayakers, spelling??, told me the same thing.

    Ott Wins Classic

Ott Devoe, local guy, won the Bassmaster Classic this weekend. Quite an accomplishment as it's said to worth well over a million dollars over his career. A lot of folks will be vacationing over on Loudon now!

    Finally got on the water...

64 yrs old. Get cantankerous sometimes. Fish alone sometimes. Takes a bit. No big deal. Try to fish mid-week. Fish a few Saturday tournaments and I do empathize with the guy that gets in the middle of all that just wanting to go fishing. But I've learned to expect crowds at the larger ramps and choose alternate location. Public places requires patience. life is short, enjoy it.

    Finally got on the water...

I edited a bit Rusty! Ain't much worried about other people. I'm only responsible for my own actions. I'm not much on arguing or complaining on the internet. Had to check myself. I can deal with whatever comes my way. Don't take a dog but I do have an equalizer in my boat. I understand a need to vent. As for fisherman trying to run over me and or cause excessive wakes, its happened several times by little boats and big boats. Get cut off by crappie fisherman a few times each spring in river near Leadvale. Had striper boats on Cherokee practically wash me up on the bank. I didn't get mad at every crappie or every striper guy. I've never played judge, jury and executioner on all the crappie or striper guys. i have stood toe to toe with a few on the ramp, younger and dumber I reckon. If I ever get that upset again I'll sell my bass punk boat. Dada, I'm not complaining. I'm happy.

    Ott Wins Classic

I agree Ott's a good fellow from my experience. Wheeler also broke a Duckett Rod. They were buy one get 2 free at Expo. $33 each. But they have a production issue, I think, as they break often. Rusty, expected you to come by Fitzgerald and buy my lunch LOL. Estimated to be over 150,000 attending this Classic. That translates to roughly a gazillion dollars for local economy. LOL

    Finally got on the water...

It was a nice day, Saturday, and you think a crowded boat ramp on Saturday is unusual. it's a public ramp, it's gonna be that way every Saturday until at least Thanksgiving. Perhaps you should get used to it or pick another day. I'd rather fish mid-week if possible. I bass fish primarily although I fish for crappie too. I see and deal with crappy crappie fishing people all the time. Mostly older folks who take an inordinate time on the ramp. Some of them unload their coolers and such while parked on the ramp. some of them are just older folks out to enjoy the day. No need to get your panties in a wad, I think how I hope when the years catch up to me that I can still go, even if someone thinks it's there own private lake. Life's short, enjoy it.

    Spring fever

Ecox, if you are referring to the Bassmaster Classic it's this weekend. Starts tomorrow morning. If any of are attending, stop by Fitzgerald Rods and say hello. I should be there all 3 days. It's likely the largest show that's open to the public. Should be several thousand of our closest friends LOL

Ya oughta be able to use a dip net in that ditch. Drainage is a big issue everywhere and city of White Pine has ditches but so far I ain't even got a bite LOL

I went yesterday afternoon, 3-2-19 and splashed my boat at Walters Bridge about 1p. A couple guys I know reported crappies fishing as a bit slow. One guy had 9 with minnows under a bobber. Another reported 4 crappie and 2 walleye. I went in hopes of catching a few bass. Mission accomplished. A very few LOL Had 5 lm and nothing over 2 lbs but I had a lot of fun. Water was stained but not really muddy from pt 18 up to bridge. No floaters until you rounded Taylors Bend. But they're weren't many and that's as far down lake as I cared to go. Water was 50-52 and twas a bit windy late afternoon. Small cranks and rattle baits. Raining today, Hope Rusty's rain suit don't leak LOL
  17. I'm tired of rain too. We're going to line up 2x2 and get on arc if it keeps this up

    Who knows...

it's raining on Walters Bridge right now. While it was a bit cleaner for a day or two, it might get back to mud today. But the bank fishermen have been catching a few. I, too, was planning to go tomorrow. We shall see.
  19. The drop shot in your pic looks good to me. I think if you get snagged a few good pulls and the split shot comes off and the bullet weight which appears to ride against the shot comes off saving the hook/bait. May allow you to use a heavier weight and probably less expensive than a drop shot weight. Crappie guys have been using similar rigs a long time but the manufacturers market it as drop shot---marketing mostly. Cost more if it's a bass rig LOL Good moving water set up----IMHO
  20. Update for you, Dada. The water at Walters bridge is still muddy but it's clearing a bit. The floaters seem to have went on down lake. Saw 3 guys that were catching crappie from the ramp at Walters Bridge. Under a float. Looked like maybe 4 ft under bobber. It's looking a lot better than yesterday.
  21. I live close to Douglas, big floaters everywhere, dangerous IMHO. High ,muddy and trashy. Probably could fish but I would hesitate to run much, never know what's lurking under the surface. Good luck if you go and wear a good quality life preserver---hope you don't need it.

    Stay dry and safe folks!

Rusty, do you live in knoxville? I've got to get acquainted with the launch area and convention center that will be used at Bassmasters Classic. Where are these located and is there ample parking downtown? Knoxville Convention Center and the adjacent World’s Fair Exhibition Hall I'm told the weigh in is Thompson Bowling and launch is downtown. Help
